I've also written laeks, a piece of control software using Visual Basic. The software is used as a direct replacement for remote control units and offers the ability for a user to control a range of products such as DVD, video, TV, tape, CD player, data projectors and so on from their computer. There are also security facilities built in so that only valid users may use the equipment at certain times, and so on. Initially it was designed for educational use, but it's also seen other establishments such as hospitals and clubs using it.
Other projects involve the creation of bespoke purchase ordering systems and timetable management.
In my free time, I nurture my passion in photography. I'm deeply interested in band photography and have had the opportunity to take photos for bands such as Motorhead, Westlife, Athlete, Manic Street Preachers, Wiley, The Enemy, Goldie Lookin' Chain, Bloc Party and The Automatic in the last couple of years. You can see photos of these gigs and events at http://photos.garysmith.org.uk/gigs/.
I use a Nikon D2x body, having graduated from a Nikon D100. The D2x gets used with a variety of lenses including a Nikon 50mm f/1.4G, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G and a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. Also in the bag is an essential SB800 speedlight. I do various bits of paid work. If you're interested in commissioning me or would like to see my portfolio, send me an e-mail.
I'm also involved in a few other projects which see me using many technical skills, and gaining more every day, which means I have a very rich and featured skillset. If you're interested in me doing freelance work for you, please e-mail me at gary@garysmith.org.uk for further details.
